Earlier this month First Ascent grilled out with friends and family at Sugarhouse Park to celebrate the annual First Ascent Family BBQ. This fun community event provided a great opportunity for the First Ascent family to socialize, play games, and eat delicious food from food trucks namely Food Almighty and Aunty’s Hawaiian Kitchen.
The family BBQ is an event designed for First Ascent Scholars and their families. This is an opportunity for the scholars to invite their family and engage with the First Ascent staff. It is a time to celebrate and recognize the importance families play in students’ lives. It’s a great opportunity for mentors and mentees to strengthen their relationship beyond the business school.
“This is my third family BBQ with First Ascent, and I must say that it gets better each year,” said Anwar Shelali. “I always bring my parents and siblings with me because we know that we are going to have a great time and eat amazing food. My family always looks forward to hanging out with the First Ascent crew whenever they have the chance.”
The First Ascent Scholars Program cultivates, encourages, and enables academically focused students with significant financial need to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah, local, and global community while reaching their full academic potential.
